The Orangi Collection
Sustainability
The Orangi Collection is dedicated to protecting the environment, the local population, and preserving the natural beauty of Tanzania.
Our lodges are set in some of the most stunning landscapes, rich in wildlife. We see it as our responsibility to protect these natural treasures by implementing sustainable practices to minimize our environmental impact.
As part of our commitment, we actively support wildlife conservation efforts aimed at understanding and safeguarding species, as well as maintaining the balance of local ecosystems.
We also prioritize making a positive difference in the local communities by supporting various initiatives. When you stay with us, you’re not only experiencing the wonders of Tanzania but also contributing to efforts that help preserve the country’s beauty.
Wildlife conservation program
The Orangi Collection is proud to be a supporter of the Northern Tanzania Secretarybird Project, a project that has been running since 2023 in Serengeti and Tarangire.
The Secretary Bird is endangered and decreasing throughout all its range. The researchers are filling knowledge gaps on ecology, demography and genetics in order to establish a recovery plan in Tanzania, which will provide important conservation guidelines to management authorities.
As one of the last important refuges for the Secretary Bird, the Serengeti ecosystem represents an important area to be preserved.
For more information and updates on the project, visit their website or their Facebook and Instagram pages.
By choosing to spend your safari with us, you support the conservation of this extraordinary bird species!
Support local communities
The Orangi Collection is committed to creating local employment opportunities. We primarily hire local individuals for positions in both our office and lodges. By supporting the local workforce, we contribute to building a stronger and more prosperous future for the region.
Since the establishment of our first lodge, Ngorongoro Marera Mountain View Lodge, supporting local communities has been a top priority. We decided to open a public water fountain that provides clean and safe drinking water to the nearby villages. This initiative ensures access to potable water, improving health and daily life for many families.
Initiatives in our lodges
Our lodges are designed with great respect for nature, in harmony with the unique landscape around. We implement various sustainable initiatives to reduce our impact on the environment. For example, we have installed solar power systems across all four lodges, ensuring electricity and hot water every day in the rooms. We also have replaced plastic bottles with glass bottles filled with drinking water in every room.
Through supporting local communities while reducing our environmental impact, we source fresh produce directly from nearby villages to supply to our four restaurants. We cultivate our own garden in Ngorongoro Marera Mountain View Lodge, that allows us to prepare delicious dishes with fresh ingredients.
